Veterans Day

On November 11, 2019, our nation will celebrate Veterans Day. On this day of tribute, we take time to thank, honor and remember our Veterans and our service men and women, who daily protect our freedoms and our democracy. We remember those who have fought – and died – to defend our liberties and create a world where peace and justice are virtues for all people to embrace.

MGA’s Office of Veteran’s and Military Affairs will lead the University’s celebration of Veterans Day. For our community, MGA and Macon-Bibb County will host a Service of Remembrance, on Monday 11th November at 11:00 AM, at Coleman Hill. All are welcome.

Each campus will honor our veterans with activities to create letters and cards for veterans. See https://www.mga.edu/veterans-military/veterans-day.php for times at each campus. I hope you will participate in one of our Veterans Day events, and recall the past and present service that so many have given to defend our freedoms.

MGA continues to be a community that proudly welcomes all veteran and active duty students, and offers a veteran/military friendly culture. Faculty and staff work to ensure military-connected students are empowered and knowledgeable about their educational benefits that they have earned, supported in a community in which the transition from service to student is a seamless one, and inspired to become lifelong learners. Currently there are over 350 veteran and active duty students enrolled in MGA. We are thankful not only for their choice of MGA for their education, but also for their vocation and service in defending the right to education through their commitment to the military.

We are further honored to have many faculty and staff members who are veterans. These individuals work across all campuses and are involved in nearly every aspect of our university life. A special thanks goes to each member of the MGA family who has served our nation. We are grateful to each of them for their military service and the insight and talents they bring to our university.

We stand united in thanks to both the generations that have now departed us, and also those to whom we can be grateful for their current military service.
