An Exciting Start of Our Second Decade

Dear MGA Community,

I hope everyone has had a successful start to the Fall 2025 semester! As we settle into these first few days of a new academic year, I'm excited to share what we accomplished over the summer — achievements on our path to excellence that have positioned our University for an incredibly bright future.

July 1, 2025, marked the 10th anniversary of becoming Middle Georgia State University and being granted State University status. While this milestone occurred over the summer and our campuses were a bit quieter than they would be in the fall and spring, I’d like to share a few achievements that kicked off our second decade:

  • We were approved to become a provisional member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s (NCAA) Division II, providing our student-athletes with enhanced opportunities to compete at the highest levels. Our athletic teams will begin competition as members of the Peach Belt Conference this fall, and I encourage everyone to attend meets or games to cheer on our Knights.
  • The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) granted approval for our participation in the Enhanced Air Traffic Control-Collegiate Training Initiative (ATC-CTI) program. We're now the only University in Georgia — and one of only eight schools nationwide — to participate in this program that offers students a more direct path to FAA employment and is aimed to address our nation's critical need for air traffic controllers.
  • We've made significant improvements across all campuses this summer, including a new second floor entrance at the Macon Library; a new lawn area and pavilion — the Barrs Family Outdoor Learning Pavilion — at the Cochran Campus; and substantial progress on the new building and hangar at the Eastman Campus. We look forward to continuing to upgrade all our campuses to enhance your University experience.

These achievements reflect our University's dedication to our core values of Stewardship, Engagement, Adaptability, and Leadership — values we encourage you to carry with you throughout this academic year, our next decade, and beyond.

Here's to a productive and rewarding Fall 2025 semester filled with new opportunities, academic excellence, and many ‘firsts’ for our University as we embark on an exciting second decade ahead.

Go Knights!

Chris
